Biography

Beniamin Popescu (b. 1989) is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Romania. He graduated in 2013 from the Painting Department of the Bucharest National University of Arts. His practice merges traditional painting with raw, unconventional materials such as iron, asphalt, and plaster, forging a distinctive visual language rooted in experimentation and personal narrative.

At the heart of Popescu’s work lies a deep engagement with nature—not merely as subject, but as an active force that shapes perception, emotion, and form. His creative process begins with observation, tracing how the natural world transforms both the external landscape and his own inner states. This continuous exchange becomes the foundation of his art.

Shaped by his early experiences in a family of builders, Popescu’s familiarity with construction materials and environments informs his tactile approach to artmaking. The materials he uses are not arbitrary—they are extensions of memory, tools of exploration, and carriers of meaning. Through them, he reconstructs fragments of personal history and invites viewers into a space where structure and emotion coalesce.

Popescu’s works have been recognized with multiple awards from the Romanian Union of Visual Artists and presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His artistic practice reflects an ongoing inquiry into materiality, identity, and the subtle interplay between the organic and the constructed.
