Răzvan Neagoe Sinegrafia press release in Modernism.ro

The current exhibition offers a panorama of some of the most representative themes, techniques, and subjects in Răzvan Neagoe's artistic journey over the past 20 years, characterized by their recurrence and the depth of his research. Portraiture, still life, landscape, and urban space form the foundation of this narrative sinegraphy, especially considering that, in most cases, the representation is challenged and undone by the technical issues of the darkroom and camera obscura.

The image is recovered as a witness that records photographic errors and alterations. As a result, it is removed from the realm of the recognizable and brought into a contemplative and experimental territory that is analytical, self-reflective, and poetic in nature. In his approach, the rudiments of analog photography, enhanced with various experimental curiosities, serve as the primary tools of creation through which the image is subjected to psychological, existential, and phenomenological inquiries. In this sense, Răzvan Neagoe's work can also be understood as a form of research into the issues of "meta-image," a term borrowed from W.J.T. Mitchell, meaning "an image of the image," which leads to a self-aware investigation into the existence of images-a condition specific to the "pictorial turn."
