The current exhibition offers a panorama of themes, techniques, and subjects that are representative-through their recurrence and the depth of research-of Răzvan Neagoe's artistic approach over the past 20 years. Portraiture, still life, landscape, and urban space form the foundation of this narrative sinegraphy, considering that, in most cases, representation is challenged and negated by the technical issues of the darkroom and camera obscura.
The image is recovered as a witness that records photographic errors and alterations. Thus, it is removed from the realm of the recognizable, and brought into a contemplative and experimental territory with an analytical and self-reflective origin. In his approach, the rudiments of analog photography, enhanced with various experimental curiosities, serve as the primary tools of creation, through which the image is subjected to psychological, existential, and phenomenological inquiry. In this sense, Răzvan Neagoe's work can also be understood as a form of research into the issues of 'meta-image,' a term borrowed from W.J.T. Mitchell, meaning 'an image of the image,' which leads to a self-aware investigation into the existence of images, a condition specific to the 'pictorial turn.'
