Rubin's Vase press release in IGLOO

The curatorial program of Arsmonitor Gallery continues with the dialogue exhibition titled Rubin's Vase, which will open on November 16th and will be on view to the public until January 15th, 2024. Sorin Neamțu and Radu Comșa bring together two opposing and distinct visual worlds, where drawing, painting, sculpture, and film establish new ways of communication and interaction.

The duo hosted by Arsmonitor Gallery revisits, on a different level and under new circumstances, the artists' earlier intention to engage in a performative dialogue with the MNAC archive in 2019-2020, a project that ultimately resulted in two separate solo exhibitions. Three years later, their initial intent is transformed into a dialogue of overlaps and intersections between their own visual languages.

"Painting, as a meditative process in Neamțu's case, and painting as an anti-iconic approach in Comșa's case, meet and communicate both face-to-face and through overlaps, in a series of concordances and discordances, where the concept of the image (shape, figure, outline) is relegated to the background. In Neamțu's work, form is substituted and subjected to process and self-reflection, dissolving into the background. In Comșa's work, the background is established and concretized into form and object.

The dialogue exhibition Rubin's Vase. Neamțu/Comșa showcases a series of recent works by the two artists at a significant point in their careers, proposing formats and mediums that are atypical for their known approach until now. Sorin Neamțu's large-scale paintings without stretchers and Radu Comșa's film and leather sculptures are the main axes specially created for this dialogue between forms and backgrounds."
